2014 Mt. Brave Single Block Cabernet Sauvignon

2014 Mt. Brave Single Block Cabernet Sauvignon

It's still youthful in color with deep purple out to a ruby rim.

The nose has an intriguing mix of earth and fruit. The fruit is blue and black berry and plum and the earth is present in freshly dug soil, pencil shavings and a tinge of iron accented by fresh bay leaf and a coniferous aroma.

It enters with a juiciness that belies the earthiness. Lively acidity frames fresh blueberries, blackberries, black plum and cassis. There is a touch of anise along with bay leaf and fresh thyme over both slightly dusty and polished tannin. On the palate the earthiness is expressed by dark roast coffee and hints of a savory roasted meat suggestion. It's a rich, layered and complex wine that offers nice balance and a long finish. Given its freshness, it shows good aging potential for at least another decade.
