From the Santa Cruz Mts.
A vibrant ruby leaning into flecks of orange at the rim.
Savory tomato leaf aromas arrive first al9ng with celery salt, followed cinnamon bark, white and Szechuan pepper, then high-toned fruits like cherry, pomegranate and currant with an underlying sandalwood/cedar note.
It's lively and energetic on the palate with warm spices including hints of cinnamon, clove and Asian 5-spice. Hints of toasted vanilla and again that Szechuan pepper. The fruit is taken more of a backseat position presently, with the savory spice notes driving. The fruit is tart and red- currant, cranberry and barely-ripe cherry. The finish is on briny minerality with that celery salt component re-emerging.
Best with food at present and will benefit from a few years in bottle. It has really nice focus, freshness and verve without any aspect being overbearing.
I enjoyed it with a pork shoulder ragu on penne.
